Dr. Vipul Jairath
MBChB, DPhil, MRCP, FRCPC

Dr. Jairath oversees the global Medical R&D initiatives and services. In conjunction with the executive team and senior medical advisors, he assumes overall responsibility for the research strategy and performance of the organization’s Medical R&D services including medical operations, medical imaging, precision medicine, medical writing, medical monitoring, and medical/biostatistics advisory collaborations and IBD fellowships. He also provides medical oversight for the design of clinical trials, protocol development and imaging R&D endpoints. Dr. Jairath was previously VP of Medical Research & Development (2019-2021) and Director of Academic Research and Development (2016-19).
Dr. Jairath obtained his BSc (Pharmacology) and Medical Degree from the University of Leeds (UK), DPhil (PhD) in Clinical Medicine from the University of Oxford and a post-graduate diploma in Clinical Trials from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He is a Professor of Medicine at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, and holder of the John and Susan McDonald Endowed Chair in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) at Western University.
His specialist clinical training in Gastroenterology was completed in London and Oxford, and he holds specialist certification in Ontario and the UK. Prior to moving to Western in 2016, he was a National Institute for Health Research Clinical Trials Fellow at the Oxford Clinical Trials Research Unit and a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Oxford University Hospitals.
He is a practising gastroenterologist and specialist in IBD. His research interests in clinical therapeutics for IBD include the design of clinical trials, development and validation of outcome measures for use in clinical trials, and patient-reported outcome measures and prediction modelling for response to therapy.
Dr. Jairath has driven the development and validation of several novel indices for use in IBD clinical trials, like the UC-100 and the novel patient-reported outcome measures, Symptom and Impacts Questionnaire for Ulcerative Colitis and Symptom and Impacts Questionnaire for Crohn’s Disease. In addition, he was instrumental in the delivery of the REACT2 trial and in the design of the VERDICT trial, both of which are important clinical practice questions for patients with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, respectively.
Dr. Eileen Crowley

Pediatric Gastroenterologist, Western University, London, Ontario, Canada.
Dr. Eileen Crowley completed her honours medical degree at the National University of Ireland and subspecialty training with the Royal College of Physicians, Ireland. Moving to SickKids, Toronto for fellowship training in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition and submitted her Master’s thesis entitled ‘Towards Personalized Care in Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease’. She completed postdoctoral training and subspecialty Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease training in the laboratory of Dr. Aleixo Muise and received CIHR grant funding for support. She was co-supervised by Dr. Anne Griffiths working on the Canadian (CIDsCaNN) IBD network.
Dr. Crowley’s area of clinical specialty includes pediatric IBD. Her research interests include pediatric IBD, the genetics of IBD, therapeutic drug monitoring and precision medicine. Her work has served to better delineate the genetic phenotype of children with IBD as well as optimize response to therapy in this age group.
Dr. Crowley works as a Pediatric Gastroenterologist at the Children’s Hospital, London Health Sciences, Ontario, as an Assistant Professor with Western University and Clinician Investigator in Pediatric IBD. Dr Crowley intends to pursue further research in index development and clinical trials in Pediatric IBD.
Dr. Anne Griffiths

Dr. Anne Griffiths is a pediatric gastroenterologist and clinician/investigator at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto. She is a Senior Associate Scientist in the Child Health and Evaluative Sciences Program of the SickKids Research Institute, and a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Toronto.
Her research interests have included pediatric IBD outcomes research and collaborations to elucidate the genetic basis of susceptibility to IBD in children. She is the Principal Investigator of the Canadian Children's IBD network, which includes 12 pediatric IBD centers across Canada and is funded by the Ch.I.L.D. Foundation. She has been the Deputy Chair of the Gene-environment microbe (GEM) study, led by Dr. Ken Croitoru and funded by Crohn’s and Colitis Canada and the Helmsley Foundation.
She is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Crohn’s and Colitis, and a member of the International Organization for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IOIBD). As a former Director of the University of Toronto Pediatric Gastroenterology Training Program (1998-2003) and Head, Division of GI/Hepatology/Nutrition (2008-2015), Dr. Griffiths has mentored and trained many pediatric gastroenterologists, now clinician investigators engaged in IBD research across Canada and worldwide.
She has authored over 350 peer-reviewed publications and has lectured widely internationally on pediatric IBD. Her contributions have been recognized with the 2019 Shwachman award of the North American Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition, an American Association of Gastroenterology Research Mentor Award in 2019, and the Richard Fedorak Mentoring in IBD Award of Distinction in 2021.
Dr. Dan Turner
MD, PhD

Dan Turner is a Professor of Paediatrics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and holds a PhD degree in clinical epidemiology from the University of Toronto. Professor Turner has been Head of the Juliet Keidan Institute of Paediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at the Shaare Zedek Medical Center, Jerusalem, since 2008, and is Director of the Paediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Center and its research unit, leading more than 30 concurrent studies in PIBD.
He has co-chaired the European Crohn’s Colitis Organization (ECCO) and European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN) guidelines for the treatment of children with IBD and is an author of over 200 manuscripts in the field. Professor Turner is currently Vice-President of the international PIBD network and an elected member of the International Organization of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IOIBD). He is the past chair of the Paediatric IBD Porto Working Group of ESPGHAN, and the Paediatric committee of ECCO.
